Abel Gomez Perez

Retired SFC Abel Gomez Perez, aged 48, passed away on March 6,2025. He was a father, son, baby brother and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Abel was born on March 29, 1976, in Bayamon, PR. He graduated Brandon High School Class of 1995 in Tampa, FL, and earned his General Education Associates Degree from Campbell University. Abel enlisted into the US ARMY in November 1995 (with a break in service from 2002 to 2006) until his retirement in February 2020. Throughout his military career, he was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others. Abel served 20 years in the US ARMY.

But more than anything, Abel loved to be a father to Ivan and Ruth. He loved spending time with his children, sharing stories, playing games (and cheating), and watching old favorite TV shows. He was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced, especially the last 3 weeks of his life.

In his free time, Abel enjoyed skating, playing pool, taking “mando” the emotional support dog out, singing, telling dad jokes, watching UFC, riding his Harley, and was always being eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others. GO YANKEES and GO BUCKS…. RUN FOREST, RUN!

Abel is survived by his children, Ivan Julio and Ruth E.; his mother, Ruth Perez; brothers, Felix, Gamaliel, and Noel; and his sister Sonia Ivy. He was preceded in death by his father, Felix Gomez and his aunt, Vilma Gomez. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
