Billie Sue Churchwell

Billie Sue Churchwell, a woman who truly danced to her own beat, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026. 

A talented hairdresser for most of her life, Billie Sue had a flair for style and a spirited personality that was impossible to ignore. Those who knew her best will always remember her vibrant energy and the way she lived life entirely on her own terms.

She is survived by her daughters, Marie and Tonia; her siblings; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to those who provided unwavering support and care throughout her journey with dementia: her devoted daughter Marie, her granddaughter Ethelyn, and her faithful friends Sandy, Carolyn and Jennifer. Their dedication, along with the staff at Magnolia Gardens and Liberty Home Care and hospice, ensured she was peaceful and cared for until the end. 

A gathering of friends & family will be held March 29th from 2-4pm at Pinecrest Funeral and Cremation Services in Hope Mills NC. 

At a later date, her final commendation and interment will take place in Shelbyville, Tennessee, a place close to her heart. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the UNC Health Foundation, designated for neurology research supporting Alzheimer’s disease.
