Bruce Nunnery Obituary

Bruce Allen Nunnery, 70, of Fayetteville, passed away on April, 16 2025, peacefully in his sleep at home. Bruce was born on December, 3 1954, to Jean Wrench Nunnery and Jennings Roland Nunnery. He grew up in Cedar Creek, and graduated from Cape Fear High School in 1973. His classmates, friends and family fondly remember Bruce for his good heart, fun loving personality and giving nature as well as for his love of football, classic and modern cars, Nascar, and all things coastal.

Bruce became interested in working as soon as he was physically able. As a young boy, he worked on his Aunt Cletha's egg farm, followed by fun, odd jobs such as changing out the boards at his father's seasonal turkey shoot and washing cars on Eastern Boulevard. Like many red-blooded American boys of his time, he was driven to earning a dollar through good, honest, hard work. This deeply ingrained work value followed him into adulthood where he would carryout a fulfilling and successful career as a tire builder at Kelly Springfield/Goodyear Tires.

Though most of Bruce's life was spent in Cumberland County, near and dear to his heart was Sunset Harbor, located in Brunswick County on the Intracoastal Waterway. Sunset Harbor has long been deeply rooted to the Nunnery family legacy. Lifetimes of holiday gatherings, weekends, vacations, day trips, seasonal stays, and even permanent residences have been spent in this little piece of paradise by a long line of family members, including Bruce. He experienced many rites of passage, coming of age, as well as adulthood as he enjoyed the ‘salt life’, all his life, at ‘The Harbor’. He loved activities such as driving on the beach, fishing, boating, shucking oysters, and frying fish. Bruce found joy, love and community with friends, family and neighbors, as well as peace and solitude as he created a lifetime of memories at Sunset Harbor.

Bruce wed once in his young adult life to a bride he met at Sunset Harbor. Together they had his only child, a daughter, in 1980. He devoted the rest of his life, above all else, to selflessly providing for his daughter and making sure she knew she was loved. He also carried a torch for his mother, loving her fiercely and without waver his entire life. Bruce also maintained a unique closeness with each of his 4 siblings throughout the years.

Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Jennings Roland Nunnery, his mother, Jean Nunnery Mason, his brother, James Halbert Nunnery, brother-in-law, James ‘Jimmy’ Lewis, and his nephew, Adam Lucas Black.

Bruce is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughter, Annaliza Michelle Nunnery of Raleigh, grandson, Levi James Roman of Raleigh, sisters, Carolyn Lewis of Sunset Harbor, Glenda Daugherty (Roy) of Sunset Harbor, brother, Joseph Rolen Nunnery (Darcia) of Raleigh, nieces Wendy Garrod (Stephen) of Port Charlotte, Florida, and Jordan Royal of Lake Norman.

Bruce's family will receive friends and loved ones for an informal visitation and service to honor his life on Sunday, April 27, at 7:30 pm at Pinecrest Funeral Home (4721 Dunrobin Drive, Hope Mills, NC 28348).
