Catherine Ann Atkinson

Catherine Ann Atkinson, 68, of Pittsboro, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026.

Born on July 4, 1958, in Texas, Catherine was the daughter of the late Richard Frank Atkinson and Waltraut Pfeiffer Atkinson.

She is survived by her sister, Deborah Richardson and husband Dennis Sundell; brother, Richard "John" Atkinson and wife Sherry; nieces, Sarah Atkinson and Kat Kibben; nephew, Christopher Richardson; and a host of other family and friends.

Catherine graduated from UNC Chapel Hill, earning a bachelor's degree in psychology. Proud to be an alumni and avid UNC fan, Catherine could often be found rooting for her beloved Tarheels. After college, she worked for the City of Chapel Hill as a bus driver before retiring after 32 years. She deeply enjoyed meeting new people and seeing the regulars on her daily bus routes.  

Catherine will be remembered for her love for making jewelry and Christmas ornaments for her family and friends, as well as her love for playing cards and board games. She loved going to the beach whenever she could, enjoying the warm sun on her face and the ocean breeze in her hair.

Catherine will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
