Denise Duncan Parnell, 61, of Hope Mills, North Carolina, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, February 13, 2026 while holding hands with her husband and children at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina.
Denise was welcomed in heaven for a sweet reunion by her beloved father, Herbert Wayne Duncan and sweet sister, Candace Duncan Gottfried.
Born and raised in Grays Creek, she was overjoyed to reestablish her membership at her home church of Green Springs Baptist Church upon returning with her husband to the area two years ago.
Denise graduated from South View High School and attended Campbell University. She worked in the Robeson County Clerk of Court office for 10 years prior to moving to Winter Springs, Florida where she called home and raised her family for 30 years. She enjoyed working as a very successful real estate agent with Coldwell Banker for over 10 years. Denise also gave her all to many other business ventures that each put her talents of sales, communication, logistical organization, and love for helping others to great use.
Denise was a compassionate person who never met a stranger and exemplified integrity, honesty, and unconditional love. She had a passion to live life to the fullest while celebrating as much time, relaxation, laughs and experiences she could with family and friends. Denise caught the travel bug from her father and dedicated as much time as possible to making memories on vacations with loved ones and friends. She always delighted in planning trips for others, even perfect strangers, because she sought opportunities to provide others with exposure to new experiences and adventures. She especially treasured each and every moment of her trips with her close friends that made up her "travel girls group." She traveled all over the world including Italy, Greek Isles, many trips to Mexico, most of the Caribbean Islands, Thailand, Canada, and most of the United States.
Denise's remarkable life will forever be cherished in the lives of her family. Denise is survived by her mother, Ada Faye Duncan Bramble, of Hope Mills, NC. Denise left behind her loving husband, Alfred Mitchell Parnell of 42 years who was her favorite travel companion and dedicated champion especially through the last couple years of her medical journey. Denise is also survived by her daughter, Kelly Parnell Hunt and husband Andrew of Hope Mills, NC; son, Andrew Mitchell Parnell of Deltona, FL; brother, Vann Wayne Duncan; and grandchildren, Madison (9), Brayden (7), and Hudson (1). Being a Grandmother brought her the greatest happiness in her life. Denise will be mourned by many nieces and nephews of whom she loved like her own children, and many other relatives and friends she cherished deeply. She made a lasting impact on everyone that had the blessing of knowing her. To know her was to love her in all her authenticity, and her legacy of love and zest for life will live on in us always.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be given to Green Springs Baptist Church in her honor.
