Dot graduated with an accounting degree from Duke and later attained a master’s in library science from East Carolina. She remained a loyal Duke basketball fan and continued to watch her beloved Blue Devils throughout her life. At Duke, she was a Tri Delta and was a business manager and later editor for the Duke publication “Duke “n” Duchess.” Dot loved her family, community, and church where she played the organ, piano, and hand bells. In addition, she was involved in other activities, like bible studies, Sunday school, and various leadership rolls. She also played a “mean” hand of bridge. She and Eddie loved to dance and were in the Cotilion Club and members of Highland Country Club. She was active in “Friends of the Library” and was instrumental in helping to attain a new library in Hope Mills. She was a media center specialist for the Hope Mills School and became media center supervisor for all the Cumberland County Schools. She loved to read and was always reading books. She was a member of the DAR, Fayetteville Garden Club, and loved to cook and entertain. She enjoyed long walks at the beach and at home. Long days in the sunshine always made her smile. Dot did crafts, handwork, sewed, traveled and embraced life.
The family would like to thank Home Instead, The Carolina Inn, and Gentiva Hospice and appreciate all the love and care provided during the last years of her life, many who will always remain in our hearts.
She and the family would appreciate flowers sent to the funeral home, Pinecrest Funeral Funeral and Cremation Services in Hope Mills, or a donation to her church or any charity of your choice.
