Eddie Calvin Mason, age 80, of Fayetteville, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
Born in Lillington, North Carolina, on April 4, 1946, he was the youngest son of the late Gurney and Mary Glover Mason. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Carol Mason Autry, Bobby Mason, and Shelby Mason Norris.
Eddie graduated from Pine Forest High School and Fayetteville Technical Institute. He worked in construction and development for several years before concluding his career after 21 years as Chief Building Inspector for the City of Fayetteville and as a North Carolina Code Official. While he received numerous awards and accolades throughout his professional career, his greatest achievement was the life he built with his family.
He loved and adored his wife, Reevie. They married just two months after meeting, and his commitment to her never wavered throughout the 55 wonderful years they shared together.
He was passionate about the open road, enjoying life with the wind in his hair on his Harley-Davidson, in his Mustang, or behind the wheel of his GMC Colorado. More than the destination itself, he simply loved being with those he loved most. As long as he was traveling with his Punkin, Reevie, and his girls or grandkids, he was a happy man.
A devoted man of faith, Eddie lived his beliefs through both his words and his actions. Over the years, he faithfully served at Southview Baptist Church and Harvest Baptist Church as a Deacon, member of the Finance Committee, a missions volunteer including the local Prison Ministry, and in many other capacities wherever there was a need. He also shared his construction expertise by serving as the foreman for Phase I of the Southview Baptist Church building project.
Eddie was a generous man who quietly helped others with both his time and resources, never seeking recognition or expecting anything in return.
He believed deeply in doing what you say you will do, and he lived that principle every day of his life.
God was generous to Eddie throughout his journey, including granting him acceptance into an experimental lung cancer trial that placed his cancer into remission and allowed him to live, love, and enjoy an additional ten years with those he cherished most. In gratitude, he was always willing to share his testimony with anyone who would listen.
He loved to laugh, especially at the kind of silly humor that might have been one of the few things he and Reevie did not have in common. He enjoyed making others smile and, in recent months, found great joy in sharing a love of Downton Abbey with his oldest daughter, SweetiEdie.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Reevie Long Mason; his daughters, Edie Mason Deck (Billy) and Devie Mason; and his grandchildren, Julian, Nicolas, and Nellie Squalls.
His life was a testament of faith, integrity, generosity, and unwavering love for his family, and his legacy will continue through all who were blessed to know him.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for every prayer, call, text message, visit, and act of kindness shown during this time. Your love and support have meant more than words can express.
