Evelyn Chapman, 86, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 17, 2026, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Born as the second oldest of ten children and lovingly referred to as “Judgy” or “Jella” by her siblings, Evelyn embraced the role of family caregiver at an early age. This lifelong spirit of nurturing and devotion only grew stronger as she welcomed her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her devoted loving husband of 21 years and love of her life, Kenneth Adams; her late husband, Warren Chapman; her fiercely devoted and loving son, Wayne Long, Jr.; brothers, Robert, Junior, and Edward Bryant; sisters, Ruby Johnson, Gladys Jones, and Nancy Thompkins; and her mother and father, Ethel and Willie Bryant.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Cathy Carriere; daughter-in-law, Tonette Long; stepdaughters, Wanda Weatherby and Vanda Wagner; stepson, Lynn Adams; brother, Horace Bryant; sisters, Alma Mandel and Virginia Ashcraft; grandchildren, Jennifer-Diane and Ryan Koelle, Jessica Wezyk, Trei and Michaela Long, and Paige Long; great grandchildren, Lucas and Christian Koelle, Sadie and Hayes Long, and Ashton Bruce; numerous nieces and nephews; grand nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
Evelyn enjoyed the simple things in life and loved nothing more than cooking and caring for her family and loved ones. She enjoyed many pastimes over the years, including dancing and bowling in her early life, and fishing and crocheting in her retirement. With her charismatic personality and addictive smile, Evelyn easily made friends everywhere she went.
Evelyn loved everyone and was loved by all. She will be deeply missed.
We are forever thankful to Sue Stephens. She was not just a caretaker to Evelyn, but also a true and trusted friend. Sue brought companionship, laughter, and a wonderful friendship that will never be forgotten.
The family also extends their hearfelt thanks to Amanda Reed for her devoted care. You eased our stress because you always went above and beyond.
Warmest thanks to Tori, Monica, Terri, and Nicole your time and care.
And last but not least, special thanks to the nurses and staff at Pruitt Health for their compassionate care and support during Evelyn's final days.
Each and every one of you have been a blessing to us all.
