Francis Stewart Payne, 84, of Fayetteville, passed away on May 6, 2025, in his home with family by his side.

Born April 6, 1941, in Etchison, MD, Francis was the son of the late Jack Stewart Payne and Ruth Edna Eve Payne. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Payne.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; sisters, Ruth Ann Newman (Walter) of Pittsburgh, PA, Barbara Strickler (Robert) of VA, and Diane Horning (Walter) of NC; son, Scott Payne (Candace) of MD; daughter, Shelly Doyle (Justin) of Okeechobee, FL; brother-in-law, Charles LaFresh of MD; adopted family members, Anita-Perdomo Snyder and Robert Snyder of NC; many nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

Francis was a skilled woodworker who could make any piece of wood into a work of art. In his spare time, he could be found on the golf course or spending time with his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.

Francis was a dedicated husband, family man, and friend who will be greatly missed and forever cherished by everyone who knew and loved him.

He was the family rock. Now he is our angel. Protect us with your wings. Keep us safe and sound. Gone but never forgotten.
