Gilbert Lloyd Grimsley, age 72, affectionately known as "Papa" or "Big Daddy" of Hope Mills, passed away on September 12. He was a dedicated auto parts salesman for 52 years and was known to his customers as the "best parts man in Fayetteville."
He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Sue, and their daughters: Lisa Grimsley-Brewer and her husband, Keith; Kim Reeves and her husband, John; Ashley Grimsley; and Jessica Zanders and her husband, Aaron. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Brianna Brewer, Larkin Reeves, Shayla Esters, Delaina Brewer, Gavin Grimsley-Simmons, Macie Reeves, Chassidy Chavis, and Emily Goins; as well as great-grandchildren: Alaya Brewer Chavis, Amya Goins, Tyler Goins, and Braylee Deal.
He is survived by his siblings, including two brothers, Willie and Jimmy, and a sister, Billie Sue McDonald, along with many nieces, nephews, and a host of cherished family and friends. He was the eldest son of the late Billy Lloyd Grimsley and Viola Grimsley and was preceded in death by his baby sister, Tammy.
Daddy was deeply devoted to his family and treasured every moment, both big and small. Some of our fondest memories include spending time together supporting Carolina athletics - “Go Tarheels!” - watching his favorite westerns repeatedly, and traveling to watch softball.
As a dear friend recently said, he was a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend, an even better human being.
