James Harrison Berry, 85, of Fayetteville, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025, in his home, surrounded by his family.
Born September 23, 1939, in Robeson County, James was the son of the late Alfred and Catherine Berry. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Daniel and Archie Berry; niece, Kelli Sojka; lifetime companion, Effie “Marie” Moore; and sister-in-law, Lina Marley.
James is survived by his daughter, Denise Curnew and husband Terry; grandson, David Simmons and wife Stephanie; grandson, Harold “Trey” Jones Goodwin III and wife Lakin; four great grandchildren, Eva Simmons, Holton Goodwin, and Lexi and Lily Simmons; siblings, Jean Currie and Oscar Berry, both of Raeford, along with Guy Berry and wife Margaret, and Cathy Sojka and husband Frank, all of Fayetteville; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
James diligently worked as a Tool and Die Maker for Black & Decker before retiring in 1998 after 30 years of service. After retirement, he often enjoyed playing golf or watching NASCAR racing, but most importantly, he loved just simply spending time with his family.
He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in James’ honor be made to any charity of one’s choice.
