John Burkett

Mr. John William Burkett 78, of Fayetteville, NC died Saturday November 12, 2011 at his residence.



He is survived by his wife, Shirley Shotwell Burkett; daughters, Wanda Wilson of MO, Nancy Gail Canady and Lori Jean Burkett both of Fayetteville; son, Dwayne Canady of Fayetteville; sisters, Ethel Mae Sasser of SC, Angeline Parker of FL, Martha Ann Crook of Denver, NC, Cynthia "Tootsie" Jones of Dover, NC; brothers, Elbert Burkett and Jesse Burkett both of Dover, NC, Roger Burkett of La Grange, NC, Thomas Eugene Burkett and David Burkett both of Kinston, NC; grandchildren, Ray Holmes, Jr., Jillian Mary Holmes, William Joseph Burkett, Daniel Franklin Gilchrist, Jon Graham and Elijah Graham; great grandchildren, Jonathan Ray Holmes, Sienna Holmes, Jayden Watson, Sadie Marie Burkett, Daniyah Burkett, Dalijah Gilchrist and Melinda Rodriguez.



He was a retired veteran having served in the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Conflict.



Mr. Burkett is the son of the late William Bryant and Lady Dell Parrish Burkett. He is also preceded in death by a son, William Steven Burkett; a sister, Catherine Koonce and a brother, Robert Burkett.
