José Antonio Agosto Molina

José Antonio Agosto Molina, lovingly known as “Tío Papo,” passed away on August 13, 2026, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, at the age of 62.

José was born on September 16, 1963, in Manatí, Puerto Rico, to Segundo Agosto Viera and Ana Luz Molina Rios. He was the youngest of five children and the only boy. As a child, he left Puerto Rico to live with his father in Chicago, Illinois, beginning a life that would take him through many places and experiences. He and his family later relocated to Millville, New Jersey. Known for his free spirit, Papo never stayed in one place for too long, always moving forward in his own way. In 2020, he made his home in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he remained until his passing. Throughout his life, the love and connection he shared with his family remained an important part of who he was.

Although he was known to many as José, to his family he was “Tío Papo”—a name that represented far more than simply being an uncle. To his many nieces and nephews, he was a familiar and meaningful presence in their lives. The place he held within his family extended beyond titles, and the memories they shared with him will remain in their hearts. He was also known for the joy he brought to family gatherings, especially when dancing, playing dominoes, and enjoying friendly games of pool with loved ones.

José leaves behind his daughter, Stacey Rivera, and his granddaughter, Zhiara Blackmon, who will carry his memory forward. He is also survived by his sisters, Iris Daisy Agosto Molina, Ana Delia Agosto Molina, and Ana Luz Agosto Molina. He also leaves behind a long line of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and loved ones who knew that he was so much more than just “Tío Papo.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Segundo Agosto Viera and Ana Luz Molina Rios, and his older sister, Maria Del C. Agosto Molina, lovingly known as “Carmin.”

José Antonio Agosto Molina will be deeply missed, but the love, memories, and family connections he leaves behind will ensure that Tío Papo is never forgotten. May he rest peacefully, surrounded by those who went before him, and may his memory continue to live through every life he touched.
