Joseph "Joe" Patrick Kovasckitz, 60, passed away on July 2, 2026, in Hope Mills, North Carolina.
Joe was born on April 5, 1966, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Thomas and Marlene Kovasckitz (of Tiffin, Ohio). He was the youngest of seven children. Being an Army family, the Kovasckitz moved around a lot in the early years. A post at Fort Bragg took the family to North Carolina and they then moved into the big, white house on Main Street in Hope Mills. This home was the site of many fond memories for the family throughout the years.
Joe attended Saint Ann Catholic School (Fayetteville, NC) and then South View Junior and Senior High Schools (Hope Mills, NC) before being selected to attend the NC School of Science & Mathematics (Durham, NC). He graduated in 1984 which was one of the first graduating classes of the newly founded school. He attended UNC-Chapel Hill and was an avid Tarheel fan.
Joe will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend whose love for his family was evident in everything he did. He was endlessly curious and had a lifelong passion for learning. He found joy in traveling, capturing the beauty of the world through photography, and tending to his garden. He also had a special love for his cats, who were cherished members of the family. Whether sharing knowledge, lending a helping hand, or simply spending time with those he loved, Joe's kindness, loyalty, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Joe worked in the IT field at Geobased, Wake County School System, Fuqua School of Business and then to Becton Dickinson where he worked for 27 years. During his career at BD he contributed to the IT program in multiple different departments leaving his mark of excellence in each one. He loved his job at BD and valued his work family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Yvonne Lee; his children who were the lights of his life, Greyson Lee, Hannah Kovasckitz, Quentin Kovasckitz; and his treasured grandchildren, Delcie Mason and Forrest Mason. He is also survived by his siblings, Mike (Dana) Kovasckitz, Dan (Julie) Kovasckitz, Don Kovasckitz, Diane Kovasckitz, Sophie Wade, and John (Carol) Kovasckitz, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. His family and his many dear friends will miss him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Marlene Kovasckitz; his father-in-law, Gerald Lee; and his sister-in-law, Liz Kovasckitz.
Joe's legacy is one of love, quiet strength, unwavering devotion, and genuine kindness. His family and friends will forever cherish the memories they shared with him and will carry his love with them always.
