Joyce Odom

Joyce Christine Odom, 86 of Hope Mills, passed away July 13, 2022 surrounded by her family.

Born in Sampson County, she is the daughter of the late James Holland and Labon Etta Holland Cain.  She is also preceded in death by her husband Rufus P. Odom and sisters, Mary Hubbard and Patricia Gibson.

She is survived by daughters, Sharon Odenwelder and husband William, Wanda Shipman and husband Ronnie, all of Hope Mills;  son, Christopher Odom of Jacksonville; sister, Wilodene Sanders;  grandchildren, Linda Christal, Jeff Flaherty, Paul Odom, Ashley Velilla, Michael Odom and Casey Shipman; great grandchildren, Aiden, Rayna and Ellorah.

Mrs. Odom enjoyed gardening and going to the beach.   She did not miss watching her favorite soap opera, General Hospital on tv.  Give her some chocolate and ice cream and she was a happy lady.  She had a heart of gold and never complained.  The word fear was not in her vocabulary.  She was a devoted homemaker.  Nothing compared to the love she had for her family and taking care of them.   She was the solid rock they could all count on.  She will be missed by all who loved and knew her.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Pinecrest Funeral and Cremation Services in Hope Mills.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cape Fear Valley Hospice, 2301 Robeson Street, Suite 202, Fayetteville, NC  28305, in her honor.
