Linda Horrell Johnson

Aug 24, 1942 — May 29, 2026

Hope Mills, NC

Linda Horrell Johnson of Hope Mills, North Carolina passed away at her home on May 29, 2026, and now stands in the presence of her savior, Jesus Christ. She departed this world the way she lived in it: humbly, without noise or pretense, her presence having spoken in that tender, quiet, unhurried way that only the truly meek can.

Affectionately known to many as “Bug,” Linda was born on August 24, 1942, in Rowan, North Carolina to the late Herman Franklin Horrell and Mary Elizabeth Henry Horrell.

In 1993, She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 32 years, Hilton Graham Johnson.

Linda dedicated 20 years of her life to teaching, pouring herself into the lives of her students with the same warmth and devotion she gave to everything she loved.

Above all, her life was built on her faith in Jesus, and the encouraging words she spoke and the kindness she showed others was an overflow of her love for Him.

She treasured her family deeply, and those who knew her well knew that she experienced her most profound earthly joy through the people she called her own.

Later in life Linda could often be found tending to her yard—a labor of love that reflected her care for God’s creation and the deep satisfaction she found in beholding its beauty. She was also somewhat legendary for her baking, and anyone who had eaten a slice of one of her cakes knew they had tasted something special. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, where she faithfully served for many years and actively participated in her Sunday School class.

Anyone fortunate enough to spend time with her will remember her wonderful sense of humor. She was always a good sport, never taking herself too seriously, and had a gift for finding laughter—especially at her own expense.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Christopher Graham Johnson (Carol) of Cary, North Carolina; daughter, Lynette Johnson Hodges (Chuck) of Hope Mills, North Carolina; sister, Joyce Horrell Wommack (Rick) of Wilmington, North Carolina; brothers, Herman Dwight Horrell (Jan) and Stanley Dale Horrell (Anita) both of Ivanhoe, North Carolina; grandchildren, Kevin West Bridgeman (Joy) of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Lauren Bridgeman Cowan (Zach) of Lumberton, North Carolina and Jordan Gage Hodges (Bethany) of Temple, Texas; five great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

The family will be receiving friends daily between 11 and 3 at 4923 Bramble Street in Hope Mills. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 3350 Butler Nursery Road, Fayetteville, NC 28306 or Shriners' Children's Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
