Linda Ellen Shelander

Linda Ellen Shelander, 83, of Fayetteville, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

Born on October 21, 1942, in Fayetteville, Linda was the daughter of the late Sanford Harvey Holmes and Ola Norton Holmes. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, John Edward Shelander, brother, John Holmes; and stepfather, Rane Hammond.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Shelander; sons, Ray Black and wife Denise, Kenneth Black, and Shaun Holmes, all of Eastover; daughters, Sharron Barnhill and husband Junior of Cedar Creek and Tina Elsenpeter of Eastover; 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

Linda loved her country and was very supportive of those who bravely fought for our freedom. She was a dedicated member of the VFW Auxiliary, where she served as the President of Post 670 for over 8 years. Linda’s support continued through her involvement in the NC Dept. Military Order of the Cooties, serving as a past Grand President and living by their slogan of “Keep ‘em Smiling in Beds of White.”

In her spare time, Linda had several activities she enjoyed, whether it was fishing off the pier at the beach, crocheting, playing Farkle, or gambling whenever she could, there was never a dull moment. Of all the things she enjoyed doing, what Linda loved most of all was simply spending time with her family and friends. Her family was the most important to her, and she did whatever she could to show them how much they meant to her.

Linda was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who will be greatly missed and forever cherished by everyone who knew and loved her.
