Matthew Wayne Black

Matthew Wayne Black, 64, of Fayetteville, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

Born on February 4, 1962, in Cumberland County, Matthew was the son of the late Buddy and Patricia Benoy Black. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Michelle Black and his sister, Regina Scott.

He is survived by his two daughters, Kristina Black and Melissa Matheny; son, John David Horne III & his fiancee Jackie Dezarn; two grandchildren, Dallas Horne and Oakley Horne; sister, Athena Thomsen & her husband Ben; cousin, Robert Black; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

Some of Matthew's hobbies he loved included playing his guitar, putting model cars together, and building things with his daughter. Whenever outdoors, he enjoyed fishing and grilling. Other times, Matthew could found cheering on his favorite team, the Carolina Tar Heels.

He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
