It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Patsi West Dalpe on December 24, 2025. Patsi was a beloved member of the Hope Mills community which served as not only her place of birth on April 26, 1951, to Edwin and Doris West, but also the community in which she built her life, family and home as a wife, mother, teacher and friend to so many. Patsi returned to Hope Mills following her pursuit of a degree in education at the University of Chapel Hill in North Carolina and later received her master’s degree at Campbell University. She was introduced to her husband, Paul, through a mutual friendship and met on a ‘blind date’ which translated into almost 50 years of partnership and marriage as well as the birth and upbringing of two loving daughters of whom she was very proud.
As so many elements of Patsi’s life focused on serving others, she began her 43-year teaching career as a special education teacher at Legion Road Elementary School working with her colleagues and caring for countless students and their families. Following her retirement, she assumed a second teaching stint working at the Fayetteville Academy, instructing first grade students and creating friendships with her wonderful colleagues. Patsi enjoyed her last decade in true retirement, engaging in day trips to Pinehurst with her family, meeting her girlfriends for celebratory lunches, and serving the Lord through her strong commitment to the Congregational Christian Church in Hope Mills. She handled adversity with positivity, hope and faith, navigating through her illness with dignity. Her family is so grateful for the wonderful woman, wife and mother that she was, never without a smile, a friend to everyone, and always providing strength, love and guidance.
Patsi leaves behind many who will cherish the memories of their time spent together with her through the years, including her family, friends, her fellow church members, and neighbors from her Cypress Lakes community. She is survived by her husband, Paul, her daughter Erin, her daughter Cameron and son-in-law Robb, and her brother Carl.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made to two charities that were near and dear to her, the ASPCA at aspca.org, to continue to support animals in need, and the American Lung Association at lung.org, in honor of her father.
