January 6, 1942 — December 1, 2024

Hope Mills, NC

Richard Kenneth “Mac” McCubbins, 82 of Hope Mills, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, in his home.

Mac was born on January 6, 1942, in Jefferson County, KY. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dena Hart and Kelly McCubbins; siblings, Beatrice, Betty, Don, Doris, and Barbara; niece, Rhonda Meling; and nephews, Richard Merriman and Randy King.

He is survived by his son, Clay McCubbins; grandsons, Matthew Hart and Jake; nieces, Tiffany Rand, Tammy Schell, and Sherrie Jones; nephews, Ronald Merriman, Michael Merriman, Scott King, and Josh Pruitt; caregiver and special friend Melissa Taylor; and a host of other family and friends.

After honorably serving several years in the US Army, Mac retired as a Sergeant First Class. During his military career, he was a part of the 82nd Airborne Rangers and the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. He served several tours in Vietnam and received numerous ribbons, awards, and medals throughout his years on service.

Mac will be remembered as a man dedicated to any task set before him. There was never any obstacle or challenge that he wouldn’t face with stern commitment. Even with his overwhelming determination, Mac still enjoyed the simpler things in life and would bring moments of joy and happiness to everyone that loved him. He will be greatly missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the US Army Airborne & Special Operations Museum at www.asomf.org.

Mac made many trips to the museum over the years, spending several hours there each time. He loved his flag. He loved his country. What a way to honor his life with such a fitting tribute.
