Sam was a man who lived life with strength, faith, and a heart full of love. For 30 years, he was a devoted and loving husband to Cathy Davis. He shared a life filled with laughter, faith, and unwavering commitment. He was a hardworking craftsman, he could build just about anything out of wood, creating not only beautiful pieces but a legacy of dedication and skill. He worked hard and loved even harder, always putting his family first.
Sam was a proud father to three daughters, Paula Davis, Danna Davis Johnson, and Lori Davis Lee (Troy), and a stepfather to Maryanne Basler (Paul) and John Johnson (Tammy). He was a beloved Papa to ten grandchildren, Derrick Basler, Dillon Johnson (Candra) Sammi Basler, Tyler Cole, Megan Doyle (Colby), Francis McCarthy, Logan Tart (Mason), Michael Cappola, Braxton Lee, and Samantha Moore (Ethan West). He was a cherished great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren, Lilly Johnson, Ansley Cole, Axel Doyle, Jeremiah, Hampton, Chase, Maggie, and Brooklyn. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Alice Ralph Penny (Hal) and by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Tessie Mae Tart Davis; father, Colonel Ellington Davis; and his brothers, Julius Ellington “JE” Davis and James “Larry” Davis.
He loved Jesus, never passed up a good movie or TV show, faithfully cheered for the Dallas Cowboys, and had a special gift for making people laugh. His presence brought warmth and joy to those around him, and his memory will live on in the countless lives he touched with his love, humor, and generosity.
