Sonya Klara Gonzalez

Sonya Klara Gonzalez, 89, of Hope Mills, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2026.

Born on April 29, 1937, in Germany, Sonya was the daughter of the late Xavier Kölbl and Anna Dehner Kölbl. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Lorenzo Gonzalez and several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her four children, Dieter Kölbl and wife Anita, Belinda Zelko and husband Warren, David Gonzalez and wife Connie, and Wolfgang Gonzalez; grandchildren, Benjamin Kölbl, Jacqueline Rodriguez and husband Jesus, Adrienne Cheeseman and husband Tadd, Heather Midyette and husband Miguel, David Gonzalez, Jr. and fiancée Bethany Mounts, Justin Murray, Logan Gonzalez, Skylar Gonzalez, Layla Gonzalez, and Bianca Casey; great-grandchildren, Carolina, Margot, Adelina, Hailey, Mia, Grayson, Maddie, Aubrey and a great-granddaughter on the way; brother, Dieter Kölbl; and a host of other family members and friends.

Sonya was dedicated to her family and put them first before everything. She enjoyed being outside whether it was working in her yard and garden or simply taking in the outdoors. Through the years she traveled abroad, visiting numerous places such as Panama, Peru, and Italy to name a few. Locally she enjoyed trips to the beach and mountains whenever the opportunity occurred.

Sonya will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed and forever cherished by everyone who knew and loved her.
