Terry Townsend

Terry "Turnip" Townsend, 66, of Grays Creek, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016.

Born in Cumberland County, he is the son of Albert Arthur and Thelma Stevens Townsend. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Donald Howard Townsend.

He is survived by his wife Lynda Townsend of Grays Creek; 3 sons, Mitchell Cranford Townsend, Jody Lance Townsend and Fiancée Dana Cozine, Troy Dale Townsend and Fiancée Jasa Discavage, all of Grays Creek; a sister, Janice Townsend Sugar of Mt. Olive; a brother, Arthur Gerald Townsend of Grays Creek; 3 grandchildren, Haley Townsend, Hannah Townsend, and Hervey Sessoms.

Mr. Townsend was a member of Green Springs Baptist Church and was very active in the Light Sunday School Class, served on the Building and Grounds Committee, Strategic Planning Committee and was the Harvest Day organizer. He was active in the Grays Creek and Ocean Isle Beach Community and Soil and Water Conservation, restoring the family pond that was originally dug by hand by his father and uncles. He enjoyed playing baseball and was a Little League baseball coach and was on the Grays Creek High School Tri County Basketball Championship Team. He operated Terry's Deer Processing for many years and built all three of the houses he lived in. He enjoyed many hobbies. He was an avid golfer, loved fishing at the beach, hunting, pine tree farming, building things, cooking, and loved his tractor and Chevy trucks. He had a great sense of humor and made everyone laugh and feel at ease. He loved spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren.
