Thompson Osa Coryell, born June 1, 1945, went home to be with his heavenly Father on August 15, 2025, at the age of 80 years old.
Tom graduated from Herndon High School in 1964. Tom went on to graduate in 1969 with a major in history at VMI (Virginia Military Institute). Tom entered his military career in the Army as a Lieutenant and taught ROTC at Appalachian State University. Tom served in Korea as well as Germany during his career in the military. Tom retired from the Army as a Major after 20 years of service for our country.
Tom went on to work in several jobs after retiring from the Army, such as a consultant at Croft Metals, a manager at Short Stops, and a referee for many different sporting events. Tom was a faithful member of several churches throughout his life and a part of many ministries associated with each church. Everyone who encountered Tom noticed an unending joy within him that came from his faith and love for Jesus Christ. Tom had a tremendous zeal for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Tom shared the love of Christ with everyone he talked with wherever he was at the time.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Donald Coryell and his mother, Myra Hornbaker. Tom is survived by his wife, Tasha Coryell and their daughters, Tashira Parker and Qwonek Parker. Tom is also survived by his sister, Joyce Hedrick (husband Don Hedrick); brother, Ned Coryell (wife Susan Coryell); sons Jeff Coryell (wife Beth Coryell), Matthew Coryell, Marcus Coryell (wife Tina Coryell); and daughter, Michelle Smith (husband Jeremy Smith); as well as his grandchildren, Joshua Coryell, Julienne Coryell, Oliver Smith, and Kaiwaun.
Tom was deeply loved and will be missed by more than just his family and friends because of the impact Jesus Christ had in his life to share with others.
All family, friends, and acquaintances are welcome to the visitation and funeral service as well as access to the live stream and recording of the funeral service on the Pinecrest Funeral Home website (www.pinecrestfuneralservice.com). The burial ceremony will be private for family members.
