Virginia Mae Bess

Virginia Mae Bess, 92, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026.

Born on July 15, 1934, in West Virginia, Virginia was the daughter of the late Roy and Florence Beverly Ashley. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Alton Bess, her sisters, Margaret Givens and Frances Gill; and her brother, Gene Ashley.

She is survived by her daughters, Shelia Clemmons and Yvonne Benson and her husband Sandy Holland; granddaughters, Nicole Pearce and fiancé Brandon Raynor, Ginger Szabo and husband Joe Szabo; two great-grandchildren, Amber Bullard and Joseph Szabo; Several nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.

Virginia deeply loved cooking and catering for her church, as well as working with the children in her church's classrooms. As well as her love for cooking, she will also be remembered for her passion for sewing, as well as working in her yard.
